Summary:
Essential Rock # 8 Leadership
Leadership is influencing others. It’s about being intentional in growing the leadership capacities of others by spending time teaching leadership, modeling leadership, and coaching for leadership.
Application:
There are three entry points into being intentional in growing leaders:
- Spending Time: Be sure to schedule time to build relationships with emerging leaders to teach and discuss leadership skills.
- Modeling: As a leader you are always in the spotlight of what is expected and tolerated as a leader…so practice what you preach about leadership and model it always.
- Coaching: Walk others through scenarios and situations that they’ll experience in real life leadership. The phases for coaching are:
- trust in the relationship,
- observations of you leading
- apprenticeship where they lead and you provide specific feedback,
- mentorship, where you are their “go to” for wisdom, guidance, and support.
